The artist duo Timon & Melchior Grau explores archetypes of human connectedness, emphasizing the urgency for people to come closer together. Through immersive installations and product design, they create emotionally resonant spaces for gathering and sensory encounter.
Their work draws on the poetic potential of light, activating empathy and presence while transforming environments into shared, reflective experiences. As creative directors of the lighting brand GRAU, they extend this vision into sculptural lighting design, merging artistic sensitivity with technological innovation to shape the future of human-centered light.
Timon & Melchior Grau (b. 1990 and 1991, Hamburg) live and work in Berlin and Hamburg. They studied fine arts at the University of Arts Berlin with professor Ai Weiwei and Hito Steyerl, before graduating from Städelschule in the class of professor Willem de Rooij in 2021. Their work was awarded with the German Design Awards in Gold, iF Award as well as Red Dot Award.
